In the summer of 1943 I was camping with 1155 squadron of the Air Training Corps at RAF Harwell airbase.
Four US Air Force B17s came in together one day Heavily damaged after a sortie. The names of the planes I remember to this day: Ruptured Duck, L'il Abner, Impatient Virgin and Oklahoma Okie.
The planes cam straight in coming to a halt beside the tower where ambulances were waiting for the injured. I believe there was a possible fatality.
