Large Hadron Collider

The world's largest, most powerful particle accelerator went into action today, the 30th March 2010 opening up a new era in the hunt for new particles.

The LHC is based in Cern, the European Nuclear Research Organisation, on the outskirts of Geneva.

Previous attempts prior to this date have resulted in damage or lowered achieved energy levels.
